Lately, the Wednesday series on Netflix has gotten so popular to an extent that everyday, we would see it or something related on all kinds of social media platforms.

In the crochet & knit community, the series’ popularity is on another level since our favorite protagonist - Wednesday, of course - often appears in crochet/knit items. Her crochet vest in episode 5 (You Reap What You Woe) was living rent-free in my head for a few days until I decided to recreate it.

It's not just a regular checked vest because the pattern is kinda more interesting. Instead of equally Black and White, the vest is predominantly black. And what could be better for Wednesday than even darker? ;) To be fair, I think many color combinations would be great for this piece. In the tutorial video, my palette is pink & peanut brown which reminds me of Enid (Wednesday’s bestie), because her colors would be pink with anything 😉

Anyways, I took some screenshots of the vest while watching episode 5. And that was not enough to take a good look at the vest (best to observe it from every angle 😂), so I had to throw in some of my imagination to reconstruct it. Fortunately, the result came out perfect! Close enough to the original and most importantly, very good as a crochet vest itself that I would wear for a fall/winter every-day-outfit.

I spent lots of love and effort on size-grading and developing crochet patterns for this design. So here it comes, completely FREE for everyone ❤️

I’m writing this on Dec 22nd, too late to make it before Christmas. But I think everything will be done in January. So... This is my new year's gift to all of you who enjoy one of the best hobbies on earth.

  NOTE: Best to choose yarn that is NOT heavy, 100gr/3.5oz of yarn should give at least 280m/300yd.
  The lighter the better. In the tutorial video, I used acrylic yarn 320m per 100gr (the pink one).

  (e.g. The original Vest that Wednesday wears in the series was Black = color-A and White = color-B)

  NOTE: Black or dark color yarn is NOT recommended for beginners,

It is recommended (especially for beginners) to have 3 stitch makers and mark the first stitch of each row (watch how to do this in the tutorial video). This marked first stitch (the V on top of that stitch) will be where we place the last stitch of the next row.

If you DON'T/FORGOT to mark it, you might get confused distinguishing the last stitch to crochet in. In this case, counting stitches then comparing to the number in the written/alpha pattern will help!

TIP: the V of the last stitch is kinda tilted/lean out of the piece.
